Senior Educator/Associate Director
The Windham Textile and History Museum in Willimantic, CT (aka The Mill Museum) seeks a Senior Educator /Associate Director to take the lead in developing and executing strategies to increase Education efforts for the Mill Museum. The position will advance the Museum’s reputation as an educational destination. This is a part-time, 10-12 hours a week position that requires strong interpersonal, organizational, and computer skills. The ideal candidate is a natural communicator, is detail-oriented, and can manage projects from concept to completion. This position is supervised by the Executive Director.
Job Responsibilities
- Outreach to schools, community groups, etc. to promote and schedule tours/programs
- Develop and maintain relationships within local/regional schools and community
- Monitor, evaluate and revise as needed existing museum tours and programs
- Develop new and enhance existing research-based tours, workshops, and programs to engage our visitors
- Conduct adult, student, and child programs and tours of the museum
- Provide training to staff and volunteers involved in educational activities
- Participate in in-house and outreach events
- Collaborate with the Senior Curator and Education volunteers
- Be willing to work a flexible schedule; including museum open hours and times most convenient to school groups
- Provide a monthly board report on Education
- Provide administrative back-up and support to the Executive Director
Necessary Skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; copywriting, editing, and proofreading experience highly desired
- Proficient in using social media platforms, online educational programming and video conferencing
- Strong in-person and virtual verbal communication skills
- Experience and training in Instructional Design
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field, preferably in history or education (relevant experience may substitute). Excitement for, and dedication to, The Mill Museum’s mission, community engagement, and commitment to family engagement. Strong ability to both work in a team and independently as needed. Ability to juggle multiple projects and priorities.
Hourly Rate
