Executive Director
The Windham Textile and History Museum (Willimantic, Connecticut) seeks an executive director for
a regional cultural institution located in a college community in Eastern Connecticut. We are looking
for an effective onsite chief administrative officer who will pitch in as needed on a variety of daily
tasks. The successful candidate should be a highly organized capable of managing multiple tasks. The
director needs to be able to recruit and lead volunteers, as well as expand membership and increase the
number of visitors. The successful candidate will need to effectively articulate, both orally and in
written documents, the mission and goals of the organization to the public.
Fundraising skills are important to the post, by identifying potential donors, developing relationships,
and having face-to-face meetings that culminate with significant donations. The executive director
works collaboratively with the Board of Directors and must be able to enact board priorities. The
successful candidate will need to schedule and lead group visits at the museum by schools and other
organizations.
The museum presents permanent and special exhibits, lectures, and classes which focus largely on the
history of textiles, the textile industry, and their impact on communities in Connecticut.
The executive director will help identify, plan, and coordinate these exhibits and other events.
Familiarity with budgets and computer skills are a plus. The museum seeks an applicant committed to
serving our diverse community.
The successful candidate will have a personal vision that includes the overall success of the museum.
